Exploding chestnuts

A customer has been sending me a photo every time one of the Nativ Nurseries Chinese chestnut seedlings he planted this past spring emerges from a 4ft tree tube.

Well, “emerges” isn’t the word he uses.  His text said, “Another chestnut has exploded out of the tube.”  I love it!  Folks generally draw from the field of ballistics (exploded, launched, etc.) or volcanology (erupted) when describing the growth and emergence of tree in tree tubes. 

Here’s the latest chestnut to explode from its tube:
