Ask the average person on the street how fast an oak tree grows and I guarantee they will say 6 inches per year. That’s partly why oaks and other valuable trees are not planted as widely as they should be – people assume it will take decades for them to reach significant size.
We should start thinking of any site where oaks aren’t growing at least 3ft per year as underachieving.
