Planting acorns, chestnuts and black walnuts from seed

It’s autumn and acorns, chestnuts and black walnuts – or, as I like to call them “future trees” – are starting to drop.

I have been getting tons of calls lately from people interested in and planning to plant nuts directly in the field, protecting them with tree tubes.

Planting trees from seed is so great you’d almost think that’s the way someone intended for trees to get started!  I have written several posts about direct seeding in the past, so rather than rehash them, here’s a link to one of them:  http://wilsonforsup.com/2012/06/planting-trees-from-seed-its-catching-on/.

As always, if you have any questions about starting trees from seed, please don’t hesitate to contact me.  I’d love to help!
